A candidate for the wine of the vintage, the 2007 Lafite Rothschild (84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot) reveals classic Lafite aromas of graphite, unsmoked cigar tobacco, black currants, cherries, and a hint of truffles. The complex aromatics are followed by a round, medium to full-bodied wine with silky tannins, an overall subtle smoky component, and a rich, round, generous, plump finish. Prieuré-Lichine 2008 is a result of patience and precision. The incredible wine-making expertise offset challenging weather conditions – cold rainy summer- which called for low turn-out. Thankfully, September’s ideal dry weather arrived just in time to warrant high-quality grapes. The long vinification yielded charming wines with pleasant aromas, balanced, quite distinguished, and lovely density. Very elegant Margaux.

  • It has impressive precision on the nose with the Cabernet Franc component beginning to make its presence felt. The succulent black fruit now contend with herbaceous, dried meat scents with just a touch of truffle. The palate is full-bodied with good intensity. Ripe, dusky tannins, still quite closed with a structure, graphite tinged finish, and it shows very fine poise if not the complexity of a top class Cheval Blanc.
